Meet our PhD students: Ali Al-Ameri

Hi Ali Al-Ameri, doctoral student in communications engineering at the Department of Electrical and Information Technology!

Profile picture of Ali Al-Ameri
Ali Al-Ameri just finished his mid-term review of doctoral studies.

What is your research topic?
I work on channel sounder design and implementation, channel measurements and characterization for mmWave and sub-THz frequencies.

What is your project within NextG2Com?
Within NextG2Com, I work on a project that investigates dual frequencies for massive MIMO, for joint communication and positioning. In our work, we have examined how the vertical channel at a high frequency band of 140 GHz behaves in different types of environments in order to combine a vertical high-frequency system with MIMO technology. The more stable low-frequency system that today already uses MIMO technology can locate a user in the room, while the ceiling-mounted transmitter, operating on a higher frequency can provide the network exactly where it is needed and transmit from above. This would enable positioning with a high number of users, and has implications for industrial settings where requirements on network reliability and safety are high.

What do you do when you are not doing research?
Spend time with my family and friends.
