Research
Research within NextG2Com is performed within five thematic areas, and one theme supporting demonstrators, testing and systems integration.

The links below will open in Lund University's Research Portal.
Theme 1: 6G Communication and Compute Infrastructures
Theme 1 addresses a number of research challenges related to the next generation wireless communication systems, with a main focus on distributed MIMO systems, in the form of large intelligent surfaces (LIS) and cell-free/distributed massive MIMO.
Theme leaders: Ove Edfors and Liang Liu.
Theme 2: Communication, Sensing, and Positioning
Theme 2 investigates the foundations for radio based communication, and sensing and positioning by studying both the radio channel characteristics for 6G distributed massive MIMO systems, millimeter wave, and sub-THz communication and sensing systems. Themes 1 and 2 work close together within NextG2Com.
Theme leaders: Fredrik Tufvesson and Buon Kiong Lau.
Theme 3: Cooperative and Autonomous Robotics
Theme 3 addresses a wide range of technical challenges for cooperative and autonomous robots. In particular, the theme investigates how integrated and distributed computational resources in the 6G infrastructure can be used to decouple the robot mind from the robotic body.
Theme leaders: Volker Krueger, Maj Stenmark, Elin Anna Topp.
Theme 4: Integrated Data Engineering and Machine Learning
Theme 4 takes on a wide range of challenges regarding large-scale secure and privacy preserving data collection, and machine learning-based data analytics. ML operations pipelines and tools need to be streamlined and be fully integrated into the communication and computational platform.
Theme leaders: Per Runeson, Christian Gehrmann, Amir Aminifar.
Theme 5: Software Platforms and Continuous Engineering
Theme 5 addresses challenges related to next generation software platforms and continuous engineering. The theme particularly focuses on the high demands in safety-critical applications, such as automotive, robotics and IoT (Internet of Things).
Theme leaders: Emma Söderberg, Emelie Engström, Markus Borg.
Theme 6: Demonstrators, Tests and System integration
Via all partners, NextG2Com has access to multiple research infrastructures. Theme 6 will integrate and coordinate all demonstrator and test activities in the other projects, with the aim to demonstrate fully integrated end-to-end solutions in real world scenarios.
Theme leaders: Anders J Johansson, William Tärneberg, Charlotta Johnsson.
